The School Room

This is the main storage area for books in our school room. It holds a lot. Levis found it at the side of the road last year and brought it home on the roof of his Civic :)

One of the handles is broken and the drawers are wonky but I LOVE it. I made the holders on the shelves with magazine boxes and I covered them with scrapbook paper and modge podge to make them look a little nicer.

The shelves on either side hold the boys school work for the day. We use a modified workbox system for our schooling and the boys like being able to physically see how much they have accomplished and how much they still have yet to do.

This cabinet holds crafting supplies. The buckets on the floor beside it also hold craft supplies. Under the cabinet two white baskets hold the boys completed projects. Once the buckets are full we go through them decide what to keep and what can be tossed. I do not hold on to every little thing they make. I do however want them to be free to make a lot of things. Therefore this is a happy compromise for all of us. I save the cream of the crop and store it in Rubbermaids in the basement for them to have when they have kids of their own. The rack with stainless pails is from IKEA. It is a wonderful way to store pencils and glue and such. The blue basket on top of the cabinet holds the boys rulers, tape, large scissors and paper punch. Then beside it is the electric pencil sharpener. Years ago each of the boys made tool boxes that we use instead of pencil cases. When it is time to do school work they take their box to the school table to complete their work. Each of them have everything they could possibly need to complete the work they are assigned for the day.

Next is the table where most school work is completed. Each boy has an end of the table. The door leads to the living room and is usually open. I closed it for picture purposes :)

This is our calendar board. Pretty simple really. We are still working on the concept of, today, tomorrow, yesterday. For some reason they are having a difficult time grasping it. We also track the weather everyday and keep track of seasons. We are also using a calendar workbook from CLE that covers different things each month. wind, precipitation, snowfall, temperature. It also includes graphs and the boys are really enjoying it.

And this is my desk. The messiest place in my entire house. The basket on the left holds all of my teachers manuals. The bucket on the right is where the boys put completed work for me to mark.

So that is our school room. Nothing fancy or special but it works for us. And just so you know that we do use this space here are some pics of us doing life and learning in the *School Room*.

He doesn't really like to read, or have his picture taken.
See that pencil case toolbox in the background :)
